The History of DANX
DANX is a governmental agency within the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan that is in charge of regulating and implementing state policies in the road transport sector. DANX was established in 1998 by the Presidential Decree No. 727, which aimed to create a modern and efficient road transport system in Azerbaijan. Since then, DANX has evolved and expanded its scope and functions, adapting to the changing needs and demands of the country and the region.
The Functions of DANX
DANX has a wide range of responsibilities and tasks in the road transport sector, which can be grouped into five main categories:
Passenger transportation: DANX organizes and regulates the public and private passenger transportation services within the country and abroad, including buses, minibuses, taxis, and intercity coaches. DANX also operates some of these services itself, such as the Baku Bus network, which covers more than 200 routes in the capital city.
Freight transportation: DANX oversees and coordinates the cargo transportation services by road, ensuring the safety, security, and efficiency of the movement of goods. DANX also provides some of these services itself, such as the Baku International Sea Trade Port, which is the largest port in the Caspian Sea region.
Road infrastructure: DANX plans, designs, constructs, maintains, and repairs the road infrastructure in Azerbaijan, including highways, bridges, tunnels, overpasses, underpasses, and rest areas. DANX also manages the traffic flow and control systems on these roads.
Technical maintenance: DANX ensures the technical inspection and certification of all vehicles operating in Azerbaijan, as well as their drivers and operators. DANX also provides training and education programs for road transport professionals and users.
Human resources: DANX employs more than 10,000 staff members across various departments and divisions, such as administration, finance, legal, engineering, logistics, marketing, research, and development. DANX also cooperates with other governmental agencies, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners.
Scientific research: DANX conducts and supports scientific research and innovation projects in the field of road transport, aiming to improve the quality and performance of its services and products. DANX also participates in national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and exhibitions to share its knowledge and experience.
The Projects of DANX
DANX is involved in many big and important projects that have a significant impact on the development of Azerbaijan and the region. Some of these projects are:
TRACECA: This is an international transport cooperation program that aims to create a transport corridor connecting Europe and Asia through the Caucasus and Central Asia. DANX is an active member of this program since 1998 and has implemented several projects under its framework.
Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway: This is a regional railway project that connects Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan through a 826-km-long line. DANX is a key partner of this project since 2007 and has contributed to its construction and operation.
Road construction and repair: This is a national project that aims to improve the condition and quality of the road network in Azerbaijan. DANX is responsible for this project since 2006 and has completed more than 15,000 km of roads so far.
